Scuba Diving on Tintamarre

Tintamarre Scuba Diving Good Sites

Last Saturday I went scuba diving with Scuba Zen Dive Center located in Anse Marcel on the French Side of St Martin/Sint Maarten. The weather was nice and the wind had just gone down so we were able to head to Circus. Circus is a Dive Spot on the North Eastern coast of Tintamarre Island (uninhabited island a mile away from Cul de Sac, Tintamarre is part of the Marine Reserve). The site is under 45 feet depth and its specifications are the numerous caves you can swim through. That was the first time I went through caves like that and it was pretty exciting although the Swell was rocking us ahead and back strongly. Caves offer nice points of views with play of contrasted lights. We were desperately waiting for the dolphins to show up as they were seen in the area for the last weeks, but they didn't.

We boarded back on the boat to head to the second site of the morning, La Basse Espagnole. La Basse Espagnole is a  20 to 45 feet deep reef, right half way in the channel between St Martin and Tintamarre. The Site is much exposed to swell and it's often shaken by breaking waves so it is not practicable very often. It is a very nice site with tons of coral leaves and canyons of stratified rocks with breaks where fish and lobsters like to hide.

Tintamarre is an uninhabited island from french side, located 2 miles away from North East coast of St Martin, part of St Martin Marine Park. It's a famous destination for boat excursions, the main beach, Baie Blanche, is a perfect spot for snorkeling, here is a sample of what you can discover underwater.
